The Young-Girl
(2014)

Work: book, design, photography, print design

Book, slideshow, sweater, T-shirt, shorts, sweatpants, and socks.

Under the title The Landscape of a Devastated Eros I designed and republished the text Raw Materials for a Theory of the Young-Girl (French: Premiers matériaux pour une théorie de la Jeune-Fille) by Tiqqun. The text is accompanied by illustrations by Ryoichi Ikegami taken from the manga Crying Freeman.

"[The text] dissects the impossibility of love under Empire. The Young-Girl is consumer society's total product and model citizen."
Taken from Semiotext(e)'s website

The book design was then translated into a tracksuit, consisting of a sweater, T-shirt, shorts, sweatpants, and socks.

This in turn is accompanied by a lookbook, consisting of edited images found on various tumblr journals.

Taken from a Crying Freeman synopsis:

"Yõ Hinomura, a Japanese potter, comes into the possession of some film showing an assassination by an agent of the 108 Dragons, a powerful Chinese mafia. When he refuses to turn the film over to them, they kidnap him. Hypnotized, he is trained as an assassin for them and his body is tattooed with dragons. He is given the codename Crying Freeman, because he cries after a kill and longs to be free."

Boys Will Be Boys
(2014)

Work: design, writing

An essay on the manifestation of male gender identity in contemporary perfume commercials.

As part of the motive question of my graduation year ‹what does is mean to be a man› I wondered what qualities are attributed to the contemporary man and where they come from. I decided to delve into the world of cosmetics—a predominantly feminine realm—to find out how the masculine is expressed.

The phallus is everywhere but where it's supposed to be. A bulge that plays more on knowledge and suggestion. Yet we refrain from simply whipping them out and comparing.
